Insider Tips from Sam Clarke, Co-Founder
- Is there enough space? Christmas props—whether lifestyle or fashion—take up more room than you think. Always factor this in when choosing your space.
- Can I get ahead? Having a stash of beautifully wrapped boxes ready saves loads of time on the day. One job done.
- On schedule? Do you need an unpacking day and a get-out day? Or is it shoot and go? Think about what you need logistically before you arrive.
- How to get the Christmas spirit going? It’s probably one of the hottest days of the year. Play the Christmas tunes (yes, even Mariah), light a pine-scented candle, and let the magic begin.
- Christmas tree? Use a supplier that can deliver trees year-round. Get it sent directly to the set, fresh and ready to decorate.
- Stay cool. To keep holly and foliage fresh, trim the stems, pop them in fresh water, and store them somewhere cool. Tip shared by Elkie Brown – Interior & Prop Stylist
- Let there be light. When I’m on a recce, I always look at how the space lights. At Christmas, I love depth and glow. Locations with textures like limewash or deep pigments photograph beautifully.
I’ve shot lovely images at Master Shipwrights—it gives that warm glow.
I’d also love to shoot a modern Christmas story at The South Wing—the pink plaster tones are just gorgeous.
